MEET BARATA & NIKTO
Welcome to “RAID,” a yearly comic anthology series showcasing independent creation. Whether you are an industry veteran or an aspiring creator, we want to showcase your voice. This is a place to try something new, work in an unfamiliar genre, or just cut loose from the constraints of conventional storytelling.
BARATA and NIKTO, are the forthcoming 5th and 6th volumes in our highly successful RAID Anthology series. These volumes, along with KLAATU – book 4, are part of our second anthology wave and will be collected in a beautiful 3-book slipcase edition once complete.

AN INVITATION TO PITCH
The RAID anthologies are oversized books allowing for greater play on the page; larger panel counts, outrageous spreads, and impactful scenes. This is a place for creators to sing, let loose, and have fun. Explore ideas and styles you might normally not be able to, and strut your stuff.
In terms of scope, think Heavy Metal with a little more story variety. While the anthologies are geared toward a mature-reader audience (think “R” rating, not “NC-17”), we welcome G-rated material as well. The books themselves, Barata and Nikto, are set up as giant-sized flip-books, with each side leaning into specific genres.
Please curate your pitch(es) to one of the following (or a combination thereof):
- Horror
- Crime
- Western
- Fantasy
- Sci-Fi
- Romance
SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS MAY 15th, 2024 by 6pm EST
PITCH PACKETS SHOULD INCLUDE:
- TITLE (OR WORKING TITLE)
- Contributing Creative Team (Solo Creator, Writer and Artist Team, or Writer in need of Artist)
- LOGLINE:
- Short 1-2 sentence synopsis of your story. Basically, the elevator pitch.
- DESCRIPTION:
- A lengthier description of your story. This should be like something you would see on the back of a book. Ideally 1-3 paragraphs long at most.
- DETAILS:
- Estimated page count of your story. Even page counts of 4, 6, 8, etc., please. Limited to 10 pages unless otherwise arranged.
- Prose Pitches are welcome. (Expected length of story, if accepted, should be between 1500-3000 words.)
- Genre of Story.
- ART:
- Sample of Artwork, or Portfolio Link. Basically, let us know the visual vibe of the story.

If you’re looking to collaborate but have no writer to pair up with – let us know! We’ll see what we can do.
Applying as just a Writer?
Submit your pitch, and we’ll see who we can match you up with! Alternatively, as a writer, you can also pitch a short prose story, with which we will pair an illustrator.
Have a few ideas? Multiple pitches (up to a total of 3) will be accepted.
THE (BASIC) DETAILS
Compensation
The initial three RAID volumes were self-funded and published under our imprint RAID Press. However, with volume four, we moved to the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform and successfully funded over $60,000! (See the R4ID: KLAATU campaign here.)
Barata and Nikto will both be crowdfunded projects. The funds collected go towards printing and campaign extras, while all net profits, after publication and fulfillment, are shared amongst all contributors. This includes all future sales of the book – paid out on a quarterly or yearly basis – as per the contract.
Complimentary Books
All contributor teams will receive 10 complimentary copies of the printed book and will be able to order additional books at a reduced cost. For example, a writer/artist creative team will receive 10 copies to split amongst the team, while solo creators will receive 10.
Rights and Ownership
Artists and writers retain all rights to their work. They will grant RAID Press an exclusive 5-year term to the story and an indefinite reprint license to include it in this anthology, future reprints, digital editions, marketing materials, and best of collections. Creators will always be credited for their work and will earn a continued profit sharing, as per the contract, on the work.

ABOUT THE RAID ANTHOLOGIES
The RAID anthology began as a studio portfolio of RAID’s creative members. With every new volume we’ve expanded the list of contributors, and grown the anthologies into an international showcase of talented creators. Since founding RAID PRESS in 2017 we’ve sold over 15,000 books and raised over $250,000 on Kickstarter since moving over to the crowdfunding platform in late 2021.
